Government spending cuts are on the way. This will have a serious effect on our City Council's ability to maintain services. The Conservatives here are already talking about reducing money to Parish Councils for services like recreation ground maintenance, and repair of play equipment. It was established a few years ago that rural residents shouldn't pay twice, through council tax for the work in urban areas, and then again through the parish precept for work in their own villages. I am trying to make sure the City Council keeps its promise.
Of course, cuts will have to be made. But they have to be done fairly, and we must not return to the bad old days when the parish precept payer was hit twice for the same service.
