St Giles, Kingston

October 10, 2009 9:02 AM

The church council in Kingston were told that their ancient flint wall along the churchyard was in danger of collapse. Attempts had been made to repair it, but it needed a complete rebuild at a huge cost of £20,000!

The Church Wardens heard of the Viridor Tax Credit Scheme. Viridor (who manage the refuse and recycling works at Shelford) are allowed to set environmental grants against tax liability. Every quarter there is a substantial sum for allocating grants. Martin Vye was glad to be able to help with this application.

The result: a superbly reconstructed flint churchyard wall. A ceremony was held to mark the completion of the project, with the sealing-in of a Time Capsule, so Kingston residents of the far future would know what life was like in the village in the 21st century. Another example of community determination succeeding.
