It is a stretch to refer to the latest ideas to manage Whitstable's traffic as a 'plan'. There are significant flaws, as the ideas have yet to be developed into a workable scheme. Even at this early stage, the best estimate of the costs is £2 million. KCC admits there is no money in the budget to fund these ideas.
These ideas, if ever implemented, will have a significant impact on residents in central Whitstable and further afield, whether they live on roads directly affected by such a scheme or not. Every one has their own interests - a greater distance to the bus stop for buses into Canterbury, the risks caused by traffic speed outside the schools on the roads affected, the impact of higher volumes of traffic on Cromwell Road or the perennial problem of residential parking.
You were right to point out that no 'scheme will please all of the people all the time'. However, it is a serious mistake by KCC to put forward ideas without considering residents' views and needs. Any change to traffic management will have an impact on people's quality of life, both positive and negative. Instead of seeking to impose their will, KCC should have consulted deeply and widely before proposing these ideas.
