The Liberal Democrats are the clear challengers to the Conservatives for the Canterbury and Whitstable Parliamentary Constituency. In 2010 we dramatically increased our share of the vote. Our candidate, Guy Voizey, missed winning the constituency by just 6049 votes. The Labour vote fell again and is now down to around 16%. A review by the Boundary Commission of England of all Parliamentary Constituencies, before the 2010 General Election, means that the Canterbury and Whitstable Parliamentary seat currently includes the electoral wards of Barham Downs, Barton, Blean Forest, Chartham and Stone Street, Chestfield and Swalecliffe, Gorrell, Harbledown, Harbour, Little Stour, North Nailbourne, Northgate, St Stephens, Seasalter, Sturry North, Sturry South, Tankerton, Westgate, and Wincheap. The constituency is expected to be greatly changed by the boundary review that is being undertaken to reduce the number of MP's to 600. The current proposals will see the area served by Canterbury City Council being represented by the constituencies of Canterbury and Herne Bay. The review is expected to be completed in time for the General Election in 2015. If you would like further information then please see the Boundary Commission website for their proposals for the south east. |
