Canterbury Liberal Democrats have selected Dan Prevett as their candidate for the Westgate by-election.

Dan is a resident of Westgate Ward where he lives with his wife Chloë and their two children. He has spent his career working in customer service and dispute resolution.

"I am delighted to be the Lib Dem candidate in this by-election," said Dan. "The Lib Dems have an excellent track record of serving Westgate residents and I aim to continue that service if elected."

Dan is a member of the Lib Dem team that has called for the council to rethink its traffic and local plans.

"During the recent county elections I met residents who were deeply concerned about the extra house building in South Canterbury and the traffic chaos it will cause. Both Canterbury City Council and Kent County Council need to rethink their ideas, otherwise congestion and pollution across Canterbury will get worse. We have seen what happens when plans are not properly thought through such as in the Westgate Traffic trial. The Lib Dems opposed that scheme, and we will continue to challenge the local plan."

Dan is also committed to representing residents' concerns over late night licensing issues. "Canterbury is a small city and we need to ensure the welfare of residents is top priority. If elected I will work with Cllr Michael Dixey to represent residents' concerns about new and existing premises, and the impact these premises would have on noise and anti-social behaviour."

Local party chair, Nigel Whitburn, said, "Dan will make an excellent councillor for the local community. He has bags of energy, lives right in the middle of the ward, and is a hard-working campaigner on local issues. We will be working hard to get Dan elected on June 8th."
