Plans for 4th Wincheap Slip Road

Wincheap 4th Slip Road Plan

Cllr Eden-Green provides some context:

"The plan for the 4th slip road shows it ploughing through the park and ride and the allotments. No indication is given of how or where a new park and ride is to be built, let alone funded. There are no plans for the replacement of the allotments which is a legal requirement.

There are no details of how the junction will function or the effects on traffic flow on the A28. Nor are there details of cycleways or footpaths or how people will access the retail park by Morrisons.

The applicants say 'the development is not likely to give rise to significant environmental effects' .....nor to 'significantly impact on the air quality management area'. Wincheap is known to be an air quality black spot regularly failing air quality standards.

The plans give no indication of a Wincheap relief road nor of how the resultant traffic from the 4th slip road will be handled. This is certainly the first time I have seen a motorway slip road terminating in a shopping centre.

The application relating to 105 dwellings in Thanington is entirely separate from the 4th slip road application although it is from the same applicants . It shows no details of how the site is to be accessed although the access will directly affect the A2/A28 junction.

'These two applications should have been submitted as a single comprehensive plan for the new Wincheap A2 junction together with full details of the replacement park and ride, pedestrian and cycle access routes, a Wincheap relief road and its junction onto the ring road. Piecemeal applications of this sort are deliberately designed to obscure the cumulative impact of these proposals' said Cllr Nick Eden-Green. Anyone wanting to know more about this should go to the excellent Wincheap Society and Wincheap Campaigns website."
