Barton Councillors - All Talk and No Action!

December 14, 2017 6:24 PM

Barton Ward residents recently received a leaflet claiming that their three Conservative councillors oppose unsuitable student halls in residential areas. Yet when locals attended the planning committee on 10th October that considered 21 units in Havelock Street, the Barton Councillors were nowhere to be seen.

Local residents DID attend and spoke out against this development, but their councillors didn't even provide a written statement, showing an outrageous lack of support for the people they are supposed to represent.

You might accept the absence if it were a one off. But where were the councillors during discussions over the 52 student rooms in New Dover Road? Nowhere. Utter silence.

Even the controversial 45 student room proposal in Cossington Road only attracted one representation from Cllr Jones who opened by saying she 'was not averse to the development of this site in principle'. Perhaps unsurprising from the owner of a nightclub and a residential property company.

These developments are all going ahead now in the Barton ward. Don't believe a word of what Barton Conservative Councillors say. They may say they oppose unsuitable development but it's no more than hot air.
