Redevelopment of Barrett’s Jaguar showroom

May 24, 2018 5:58 PM

Barrat's Jaguar ShowroomThe scheme to redevelop the Barrett's show room on the corner of St Peter's Street and Pound Lane will be considered by the Council's Planning Committee on Tuesday, 29th May.

The plans are for 120 student flats and four office units with associated facilities. The site is within the Canterbury City Conservation Area. It will be a car-free development, and the students will not be eligible for residents' on-street or off-street parking permits.

The plans and the officers' report can be viewed by going to the Council's website: www.canterbury.gov.uk, clicking on 'Councillors & meetings', and then clicking on 'Planning Committee'. The recommendation of the planning officers is that the application should be granted, but with a number of conditions.

St Peter's Residents' Association have objected to the development for a number of reasons which are given in the officers' report.

Members of the public can attend the meeting which will be held in the Guildhall (next to Westgate Towers) and which starts at 6.30pm.

Your councillor Michael Dixey comments: "You could also speak either for or against granting the application at the meeting provided that you give the Council 24 hours' notice by phoning Graham Finch on 01227 862004."
